ECOCERT® is an independent organization that rigorously verifies the integrity of ecological and organic products offered to consumers.

ECOCERT® has been an organization approved by European authorities for over 25 years.

This certification assures consumers that the product meets impeccable standardized controls.

This commitment guarantees compliance with a global ecological ethic, from manufacturing to the finished product.

The main objectives of ECOCERT® are to prioritize natural and naturally derived ingredients over any other origin, as well as the use of ingredients from Organic Agriculture, the best guarantee of respecting ecological values; to ensure full transparency by providing consumers with accurate information and using clear communication; and to highlight manufacturers’ commitment to improving the quality of their sourcing and products. This is achieved by embedding their efforts within a dynamic and evolving certification process.

ECOCERT® was the very first certification body to develop a standard for “Ecological and Organic Cosmetics.”

The fundamental principles of the ECOCERT® standard are:

1. The use of ingredients from renewable resources, processed using environmentally friendly methods. ECOCERT® therefore verifies:

  • The absence of GMOs, parabens, phenoxyethanol, nanoparticles, silicone, PEG, synthetic fragrances and colorants, ingredients derived from animals (except those naturally produced by them: milk, honey, etc.).
  • The biodegradable or recyclable nature of packaging.

2. A minimum threshold of natural and organic ingredients required to obtain certification:

  • In all cases, at least 95% of the total ingredients must be natural or of natural origin.
  • For the Organic Cosmetic label:
    • - At least 95% of the plant-based ingredients in the formula must be from organic farming.
    • - At least 10% of the total ingredients must be from organic farming.
  • For the Ecological Cosmetic label:
    • - At least 50% of the plant-based ingredients in the formula must be from organic farming.
    • - At least 5% of the total ingredients must be from organic farming.

Important: Certain ingredients commonly used in cosmetics (water, salts, minerals) cannot be certified organic as they are not agricultural in origin. Shampoos and some creams, which are mostly made of water, contain between 10% and 40% organic ingredients. An essential oil, which contains no water, can display up to 100% organic ingredients.
